<br /> <br />• Decades ago the Blue Flame Coal kline bench was originally open <br />grazing land. Ivbst of the land is still used for grazing and hay crops. <br />The area is sparoely populated. No more than a dozen people live in the <br />gulch at the present time. <br />After the Blue Flame Coal P.line is abandoned and the mining <br />berx;h is reclaimed, the natural use of this tract of land will be for <br />its historic use, that of grazing or pasture land for livestock. <br />HAY GU1J,~1 HAS NEVEk B1;L'N USID FOR PRIME FAfild I,AtdD <br />1'he meadow or drainage area of Hay Gulch is wet Trost of the <br />year, the slopes of the gulch are too steep for farming and cannot be <br />irrigated, and the gulch has a very short growing season. The sun is <br />hidden Touch of the tLne by the upslope areas. The drainage of the <br />meadow accounts for the lack of dwellings in the gulch bottom.
