This application was
submitted by J. E. Stover and Associates on behalf of the Sowie
number 2 Mine seeking authorization to construct two (2)
eedementation basins in ephemeral drainages. The project site is
located within Section 15, Township 13 South, Range 91 West,
Delta County, Colorado.
• We have determined that a net depletion of water resulting
from the project may affect the Colorado squawfish (Ptychocheilus
Lucius), bonytail chub (Gila elegane), humpback chub (Gila
cypha), and razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus), federally-
listed endangered species, and may adversely impact their
critical habitat. These depletions result from evaporative
losses associated with the construction of two sedimentation
ponds.
Accordingly, we are hereby initiating consultation under
Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, as amended. The
applicant estimated that 1.8 acre-feet per year of water would be
consumptively used. We have enclosed a copy of the applicant's
ealculatiene fcr yc~r use.
y JUJ V~J booJ f1J11 Y: IIlYL L11'C '~-~~ rrn
