' ERfillilT 6 <br />' GC01.OGY: <br />The Callahan Trust/D.A. Shale area is located in Garfield County, Colorado, <br />between DeBeque and Grand Valley in the southern part of the Piceance Basin. The <br />' mineral resources of this area consist of apprnr,imately. 300 feet of medium to <br />loos grade oil shale and nothing else. The oil shale is described in the folloar- <br />' ing section on stratigraphy. The desr.ription is based on outcrops along the <br />' Roan Cliffs on the north side of the Colorado River, corehnles on the Logan Wash <br />property, and subsurface mapping during mining operations. htt. Callahan .s in <br />' the eastern part of the area with an elevation of 8606 feet and is almost 3600 <br />feet above the river. Riley Gulch and Logan 41ash, the two major drainages of <br />' the area, range in ch~pth below the ridges from several hundred feet to almost <br />' 3000 feet with ridge tops as mucfr as a quarter mile aside. <br />The area is accessible via a road up Logan Wash fro~n Roan Creek and DeBeque <br />' to the crest. The end of the road near h1t. Callahan in the eastern part of the <br />area is a7 read miles from Grand Junction. <br />STRATIGRAPHY: <br />' Stratigraphic units outcropping in the Piceance Dasin area include the <br />' lJasatch formation of Eocene age, the Green River formation, also of Eocene age, <br />and basalt of late Tertiary age. <br />' The lJasatch formation does not outcrop on the property. Hoarever, it must <br />be crossed by every access road reaching the area from any direction except <br />north. The lJasatclr formation is of continental origin and comprises siltstones <br />' with a high percentage of clay and sandstones. <br />The Green River formation comprises three units, the Douglas Creek member, <br />' the. Garden Gulch in~inber, and the Parachute Creek member which contains the oil <br />shale at Logan hash. <br /> <br />
