Exhibit I
Soils Information
~i
Information for the soils on the project site was obtained from the NRCS.
In general, the overburden soils at the project site consist of a 10 to I S foot layer of silty clay loam, with a
low permeability rate. Salts in the soils moderately to severely affect plant adaptation, growth, and water
availability. The NRCS rates the soils as Class Vlll -Not suitable for cultivation, range, pasture or
woodland.
Below the overburden silty, clay loam soil is a 10-ft to 20-ft lens of sand ,gravel and cobble material. This
is the material that will be extracted and processed. in general, the upper portion of this lens contains more
fine-grained sand and gravel material. Cobbles within the lens are anticipated to range in size upto sixteen
inches in diameter.
Below the sand and gravel lens is a weathered silty clay Mancos Shale, which is considered to be bedrock
in this portion of Mesa County. Mancos Shale is a dark gray to gray block, thin-bedded to laminated shale
with interbeds of siltstone and sandstone.
A soils map and description of soils provided by the NRCS are attached.
