3.0 ESSENTIAL HYDROLOGIC FUNCTIONS
The geologic, hydrologic, and biologic characteristics of
the AVF necessary for supporting the essential hydrologic
functions of any AVF are discussed in paragraph 2.06.8(4)(d) of
the regulations of the CMLRB for Coal Mining (1981). The basic
characteristics are the following:
o supporting the function of collecting water [2.06.8
(4) (d) (i)]
o supporting the function of storing water [2.06.8 (4)
(d) (ii)]
•
o supporting the function of regulating the flow of
water [2.06.8 (4) (d) (iii)]
o making water available [2.06.8 (4) (d) (iv)]
The following is a more detailed discussion of these
characteristics.
3.1 SURFACE WATER HYDROLOGY
3.1.1 SURFACE STREAMS AND IRRIGATION DITCHES
The major drainage system affecting the area of CWI's coal
loadout facility is the North Fork Gunnison River. The water flow
and water quality in the North Fork are influenced by the
•
5
GEO•NYDRO CONSULTING, INC.
