From the results of our field investigation we estimate
the well yield to be in the range of 25 to 40 gpm. A well in such
a low permeability aquifer and a yield of 25 - 40 gpm would
develop a zone of influence of about 80 feet during continuous
pumping. The cone of depression would be very steep, and
therefore the impact of this well on the alluvial aquifer would
be minimal. After the cessation of pumping in this well, the
recovery of the water level would be relatively quick during the
irrigation season and slower during the remaining seasons.
Another potential impact on the ground water quality can
derive from the small sewer plant located within the coal loadout
facility, near the train loadout building. This plant discharges
about 100 gallons per day through a septic tank into the ground.
CJ
Because of the limited size of this plant and the high
recharge to the aquifer from the irrigation system in the area,
the impact of this plant on the ground water quality will be
insignificant.
In summary, we believe that the coal loadout facility may
influence the ground water regime only in its potential for
reducing the precipitation and snowmelt infiltration as well as
in its potential for contamination caused by seepage through the
fills (the probability of which is minimal).
•
18
GEO-HYDRO CONSULTING, INC.
