•

MINE INFLOM MITIGATION PLAN ~~~~~ ~ ~~
Matthew S. Sakurada, P,E,
JUN 1 1 1985
iNTRODIICTION MINED LAND
RECLAMATION DIVIS~Of~
Colorado Westmoreland inc, has proposed water replacement plans for poten is
subsidence-induced phenomena in Volume 5A - Water Replacement Appendices. The
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, Bureau of Land Management, and local
water users have reviewed and approved of these plans.
Further concern has been raised by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
on the inflows to the mine from natural seepage due to normal mine development.
This does not consider subsidence-induced phenomena which is covered in the
above mentioned plan, CWI, in an effort to address all concerns about future
mine development, submits a mitigation plan for mine inflows based on predic-
tions that are made based on theoretical calculations and would be confirmed
when actual mining takes place, C,WI does not anticipate mining in the areas un-
der East Roatcap Creek or Stevens Gulch for approximately ten (10) years,
PROCEDURE
CWI contracted Vladimir Straskraba of Hydro-Geo Consulting in Golden, Colorado,
to calculate the anticipated inflows. That report is included within this ap-
pendics, in general, the work performed followed the following steps:
I. Evaluation of existing CWI inflow as suhmitted in Annual Hydrology and Sub-
sidence Reports.
2. Evaluation of other area mine inflows, specifically the Somerset Mine and
Red Canyon Mine.
3. Literature search for procedures and approximate parameters.
4, Theoretical calculation of anticipated inflows under a) Stevens Gulch; h)
East Roatcap Creek; and c) the remainder of the mine,
5. Predict impacts of mine inflow,
fi. Recommend monitoring program,
7. Propose post-mining alternatives,
This mitigation plan will analyze more specifically the impacts on water users
and propose specific mitigation plans to those impacts.
IMPACTS OF MINE INFLOW ON WATER USERS
The folorado Mined Land Reclamation Division has asked to specifically study the
impacts on water users in the Stevens fulch and East Roatcap drainage areas.
Stevens Gulch
The summary of water resources contained within Stevens Gulch drainage basin is
found in the water replacement plans for subsidence induced phenomena.
