Therefore, the maximum <br />depletion of the stream due to the inflow into the mine would <br />amount to only 4 percent during the low flow period. This impact <br />on stream depletion is considered insignificant. <br />CWI is working on the relocation of the irrigation diversion <br />from East Roatcap Creek into West Roatcap Creek. The mitigation <br />plans for the replacement of 5.4 gpm will be presented in a <br />separate document. <br />3.2 Impact on Water Quality <br />At this stage of mining no water is being discharged from <br />the mine. During 1984, a total of 10 million gallons of water <br />were imported into the mine. This amount of water was used in <br />the following way: <br />o increased coal moisture, 6 million gallons; <br />o .evaporation and seepage on roadways, 3 <br />million gallons; <br />o sanitary, 1 million gallons. <br />Zt is assumed that with the expansion of the mined area the <br />need for additional water will increase. However, this increase <br />of water consumption will not be directly proportional to the <br />size of the mine and will depend mainly on the coal production <br />rate. The in-mine water consumption in 1984 is based on a mining <br />rate of 1.3 million tons of coal per year (1984 production). At <br />the present time, the mining rate is only 0.3 million tons of <br />coal per year and, therefore, the water consumption can change <br />substantially. However, the mining rate of 1.3 million tons of <br />coal per year was used in the future water consumption estimates <br />because this is the projected long term mining rate. By the end <br />of 1989, the mined area will total approximately 1,415 acres and <br />the water consumption is estimated at a minimum of 15 million <br />gallons per year or 28.5 gpm. Total inflow at the same time was <br />estimated at 8.7 gpm, therefore, it is assumed that no water will <br />be discharged from the mine by the end of 1989. <br />By the end of the mine-life, as planed at this time, the <br />mine area will increase by an additional 2,122 acres and the <br />estimated water consumption could amount to approximately 22 <br />million gallons per year (42.0 gpm). At that time the total <br />water inflow into the mine will be about 33.5 gpm and, therefore, <br />no discharge from the mine is anticipated. <br />If, in the case of reduced mining rates or other reasons <br />during the mine life, it is necessary to discharge water out of <br />the mine, the effluent water will be pumped into a sedimentation <br />pond and discharged into Stevens Gulch.
