A minimum of two
profile/sampling locations will be located
within each mapping unit within the
boundazies of the surface disturbance azeas.
A soil map with identified locations will be
submitted to CDMG for approval prior to
sampling. 'I~vo quart samples of each genetic
horizon will be collected from the exposed
profile and double-bagged in polyethylene
bags for shipment to the lab for analysis.
ANALYSIS
Each collected soil sample will be
analyzed for the following parameters:
pH;
Pazticle size (texture);
Saturation percentage;
Conductivity;
Soluble Ca, Mg, and Na;
SAR;
Boron;
Selenium (if indicators present); and
Organic Matter.
Analysis would be performed in accordance
with the procedures referenced in the CDGM
Soil and Overburden Guidelines by a lab
approved by CDGM.
SOIL SALVAGE AND
REDISTRIBUTION
The mapping, profile description, and
analysis data will be used to identify the
suitability of each mapping unit for salvage.
The chemical suitability criteria used will be
those identified in of the Soil and
Overburden Guideline and subsequent
revisions. A topsoil salvage map will be
prepazed showing the salvageable depths
within each mapping unit. This depth will be
multiplied by the corresponding acreage to
determine volume. A stripping plan will be
developed identifying lifts, special handling
(if necessary), and the location and size of
topsoil stockpiles. A redistribution plan will
be prepared that will identify the depth of
redistributed topsoil and the procedures that
will be used to replace the soil and prepaze it
for reclamation.
17
