~~.. _.. ..... -. ~__. 1.~....'____~_ -..W _~~_
Seneca II-W Prelim. Adequacy - 4 - March 5, 1985
7. The applicant should submit a specific dated timetable for seeding for
all revegetation efforts.
8. The applicant should submit a table delineating the total number of
acres to be replaced to containerized stock transplants. Additionally,
the Division would like to know whether the applicant proposes to fence
these areas or take other measures to prevent predation on the plant
species by wildlife.
9. The applicant should incorporate more species of shrubs into seed mixes
1 and 2.
10. On page 13-44 the applicant proposes to use carrying capacity as a
success standard for production. On the following pages the applicant
proposes to use reference areas. Please clarify the approach which is
proposed to 6e used.
11. The Division requests that the applicant expand on the plan for
revegetation monitoring, proposing a timetable, methodologies, and
numbers of samples to be taken.
12. The applicant has proposed methodologies for sampling vegetation cover
to determine revegetation success. The Division requests that all
future cover sampling be conducted with point-intercept or
line-intercept methodologies. Further, the applicant should
specifically address which methods will be used to collect revegetation
success criteria data for the parameters of production and woody plant
density.
13. In the formula for calculation of weighted revegetation averages the
parameter At appears to the Division as if it should be total
predisturbance acreage of all plant communities. Is this what the
applicant intends?
14. Table 10-6, which the applicant refers to in the revegetation success
section, has not been included in the text. This should be supplied
for all copies of the application.
15. The Division has independently determined that the following life forms
comprise more than three percent relative cover in the mine area; two
tree species, four shrub species, three grass species, and two forb
species. The Division proposes the species diversity standard be;
three grass species, three forb species, four shrub species, and one
tree species to be established in the same relative cover amounts as
proposed by the applicant.
16. The Division requests that the applicant submit a copy of the 1982
Pffannenstiel paper on shrub generation for justification of the shrub
density standard proposed.
