Mr. Jim Stover
August 9, 1996 -New App./Bowie 2
Page 21
MASS MOVEMENT FEATURES -LANDSLIDES
Paragraph 1
BRL has also proposed the amendment of page 42 of the SUBSIDENCE HANDBOOK,
which addresses the appropriate steps to be taken in regard to "MASS MOVEMENT
FEATURES -LANDSLIDES". BRL proposes to perform "Pre-Damage Monitoring" and
"Post-Damage Monitoring" of the known landslides, in order to determine what, if any,
rejuvenated movement might have occurred. The proposal is acceptable to the Division,
with one exception. "Pre-damage monitoring" should be commenced immediately "before"
retreat extraction, rasher than immediately "after" retreat extraction. BRL should make the
appropriate correction to Paragraph 3 on page 42 of the SUBSIDENCE HANDBOOK.
2.06 -Requirements for Permits Special Cate~ries of Mining
2.06.6 -Prime Farmlands - No additional information required at this time.
2.06.8 -Alluvial Vallev Floors
91a) As indicated elsewhere in this letter, additional monitoring is being required to verify the
no impact prediction. Specifically, all pond outlets will be monitored, additional
downgradient alluvial wells will be installed, and monitoring on the North Fork of the
Gunnison River is required.
2.10 -Maps and Plans
91b) Please provide a listing of permit application maps which show all disturbed area features
in the southeast portion of the proposed petmit area. If all features in the southeast portion
of the permit are portrayed clearly on a map, additional mapping clarifications will not be
requirrd.
2.10.3 - SQecific Information - No additional information requested at this time.
3.02.2 -Bond Amount
The July 2, 1996 BRL response is generally acceptable, with two exceptions. The cost of special
measures necessary to achieve long term reclamation stability have not been estimated or included
to date.
91c) Please provide drill hole depth and diameter information for all drill holes located in the
proposed BRL permit boundary, so that a bond estimate can be completed.
