In <br />particular, the information described under 4.05 Hydrologic <br />Balance and 4.08 Explosives. <br />4.05 Hydrologic Balance <br />First, surface mining operations have advanced in an up-dip <br />direction since the time of your inspection. Consequently, <br />pit water is not a current problem. In approximately two <br />months, mining operations will once again approach the <br />down-dip wherein pit water becomes a problem. By that time <br />we should be well on the way to solving the issue of pit <br />water treatment. In the interim, we will continue to draw <br />down the sediment pond to its full containment capacity. <br />Water from the pond is currently being pumped into the water <br />wagon for dust suppression. <br />Second, the inspection report indicates mine personnel were <br />observed pumping water from the pit into the sediment pond <br />prior to the on-site inspection. It further states that the <br />pond was completely filled and had discharged over the <br />emergency spillway. In order to confirm this, I contacted <br />the Mine Superintendent and Mine Foreman. I was informed <br />that the pond discharged through the principal spillway at <br />approximately 4:00 am on February 26, 1982. I also requested <br />backup data from our engineering department. The principal <br />spillway consists of 3 8" steel pipes approximately 8 feet <br />
