Aquatic Life (applications C-22644 and C-26913)
Fisheries
Foidel Creek is the major drainage in the area, but it is con-.
sidered a non-fishery because of intermittent flow, character-
ized by low velocity, high sediment loads, marginal water tem-
peratures, lack of riffle areas, and lack of diversity of
aquatic insects. There are a few beaver dams along reaches of
the stream in both the proposed lease areas, but due to low
water flows in Foidel and lack of water quality, none are con-
sidered a fishery. The major resource value along Foidel Creek
is the riparian habitat. The riparian habitat within and adja-
cent to the tracts are in good to excellent condition. The
riparian habitat is the single most important habitat type and
provides food, cover and shelter for the highest diversity of
animal species in the area. Riparian habitat also works as a
water quality factor downstream by reducing erosion, lowering
water temperature and providing substrata for macroinvertebrate
life. Exhibit 3 details the riparian habitat that should be
protected. The creek was sampled by Dames and Moore, a con-
102
