The effect will be to reduce sediment yield from
disturbed areas to less than 15 percent of estimated
pre-mining rates (Table 4). Appropriate sediment
control strictures and sedimentation ponds moat be
maintained until reclamation is completed and the
required erosional stability is achieved.
Field observations show tract C-26644 to be extremely
stable, primarily because of the deep soils and good
plant cover. It is doubtful that this tract, once
disturbed by mining, can be reclaimed so as to be as
stable as the pre-mining surface. Increased sediment
yield from this tract, however, would be largely
deposited in and adjacent to channels downstream with
very little of that sediment reaching Trout Creek and
the Yampa River.
Tract C-26913 is less stable and probably can be
satisfactorily restored to approximate pre-mining
conditions.
Tracts C-22676 east and west are moderately eroding
as a whole with considerable erosion occurring on the
steeper slopes. Successful reclamation of disturbed
areas in these tracts can be expected to decrease
pre-mining sediment yield by at least 25 percent.
Net long-term sediment yield from the proposed lease
127
