ROADS <br />~/ 1. Costs have been revised to reflect a single shift operation. <br />~2. As long es the costs have been allocated for the task and they are comparable <br />between equipment, then the objective has been met, whether its with a Fiat-Allis, <br />John Deere or Kamotsu. The D10N was used for ease of estimating, the equipment is on <br />Site already (for this estimate) end the cost, in this situation is actually higher. <br />Costs have been revised using a D8N dozer. <br />//i <br />~/ 3. Ripping costs have now been included. <br />TOPSOIL REPLACEMENT <br />1. Topsoiling can be accomplished until nightfall without light plants on second shift <br />and then with lights after dark. In the interest of resolving the bonding issues, <br />topsoil operations will be accomplished on first shift only. Cost have been revised <br />accordingly. <br />/2. A more economical method of ballast removal is to use scrapers as noted. Ballast is <br />equivalent to crushed rock and can be hauled by scraper from areas that need to be <br />cut to areas that will be dozed in from the side slopes. Costs have been revised to <br />be in line with the Divisions scraper costs. The MEANS estimating guide uses a 8-14 <br />crew which consist of a foreman, four laborers, an equipment operator and backhoe. <br />This results in a much higher Lost than using a scraper. <br />~. The support equipment is normally used in large earthmoving or topsoiling operations <br />to construct/maintain roads and keep the dust down. In this situation the scrapers <br />will be running on the existing railroad bed end do not require the same support as <br />topsoil operations. Costs have been added for support as needed. <br />I/4. This question and answer is related to question No. 2 above. A dozer could be used <br />for very short push distances. This is not the case in this situation. Peabody <br />estimated the haul distance one way es being 3000 ft. A loader could not be used <br />due to this same argument, [he distance is much too far to load and carry <br />economically. <br />12 <br />
