~ ^ C
• Debris, Acid-forming or Toxic-forming Wastes and Flammable Materials
Geochemical tests of the coal, development waste, and process waste
materials show no significant release of acid-forming or toxic-forming
substances from these materials (refer to Geochemical Report, Appendix
4-D.) To further protect against any potential contamination to the
environment, the following safeguards are employed.
° Drainage from the disturbed area is routed for treatment
in sediment control structures, and clean water runoff is
diverted from contact with the disturbed area .as outlined
in Protection of the Hydrologic Balance, Section 4.6.1.3.
° Coal waste ponds confine waste material to prevent contact
with surface and ground waters. The ponds are maintained
and operated as detailed in Protection of the Hydrologic
Balance.
• All boreholes, shafts, and wells are sealed to prevent
pollution of surface or ground water and to prevent mixing
of ground waters of significantly different quality.

4-25
