Several cultural resource inventories have been conducted wit

Lands for the Cambridge Mining Company" (Conner 1975); "Antiq
Inventory for Cambridge Mining Company: Coal Mine Portal and
for Coal Mine Debris Disposed in Coal Canyon and Coal Gulch,
Colorado" (4lignall and Conner 1977); and portions of an inven
entitled "Final Report of an Archaeological Survey of the Wes
Colorado Coal Leases" (Hibbets et al 1979). All total, over
the lands in the lease areas have been inventoried for cultur
resources at a class III level. Copies of the Conner reports
contained in Appendix II. A copy of the Hibbets report, incl
site forms, is available at the Colorado Preservation Office.

No sites were identified in the areas inventoried by Conner and
Wignall and Conner. A total of 28 sites and 38 isolated finds were
identified by Hibbets in coal leases C-029889 and C-024993. All sites
identified by Hibbets are located in Transect 7. This transect was
recommended in the.Hibbets report to be considered for nomination to
the National Register of Historic Places as an archaeological district.
Enclosed is the unsuitability report for coal leases C-0153°, C-078049,
C-020740, C-024998, and C-029889, which is the formal application of
unsuitability criterion 7 as is required under 43 CFR 3461.1.
