.. PAGE THREE
DAN MATHEWS
NOVEI4BER 26, 1964
retopsoiled areas with mono ammonium phosphate (100 lb/acre)
and ammonium nitrate 34-0-0 (200 lb/acre). Both these
products are obtained from Hayden Grain Company and are
produced by Co-op. These are standard fertilizers used
by farmers and ranchers in the area.
Stip 7: The applicant will periodically sample reclamation efforts
at Pits 1-6. Vegetation will be selectively sampled for
cover by an authority in range management. The authority
shall use his professional judgement in locating 5 transects
per reclaimed pit. The transects will be 50 meter tran-
sects with data collected on cover at 1 meter increments
(both 1st and 2nd hits will be recorded).
Each pit will be sampled once during the 1988 growing
season and once at each five year interval thereafter
until bond release.
tip 9: The applicant will use both preventive and remedial actions
to control rills and gullies at the Grassy Gap Coal tine.
To prevent formation (and/or reoccurence) of rills and
gullies, the applicant will install a series of contour
furrows along reclaimed surfaces to slow the velocity of
runoff. On particularly steep slopes or areas where rill
and gully formation is known to be a problem, the appli-
cant will use a combination of contour furrows and diver-
sion ditches to divert runoff away from the problem area.
When excessive rills and gullies are observed, the appli-
cant will stabilize them by filling, compacting where
appropriate, and reseeding. G?here necessary to allow for
stabilization, diversion ditches will be constructed
above the eroded areas.
-.ope the commitments contained in this letter will allow you to
--_minate stipulation 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 from the proposed
-vision document. If you have any questions regarding the commit-
==s of The Rockcastle Company to reclaim the Grassy Gap Mine, please
:i
Sincerely,
Tommy D. Raye
Tom Dapp
Bob Sherman
.Sark xorb
.?p
