Dept. of Natural Resources
Steamboat Springs, Colorado 804;7
Dear Jeff:
In accordance with your Dece^ber -. 1979 letter outlining our
priorities for assignments re,ardin~r the Kerr and Mine ~o. ~
sediment control projects, please find enclosed our ~re-
liminary hydrologic analysis for ?line No. 3. Included for
your review and discussion, Ire three summary tables. he
first identifies the sedimentation pond or sump tributary
areas, weighted AMC-III curve numbers and the 10, 25 and
100-year design volumes and peak runoff rates. The second
presents the sediment storage requirements, preliminary pond
volumes, and embankment height :Vnd elevation information. T'he
third table presents all the appropriate information concern-
ing the diversion ditches associated with this plan. Also
transmitted herewith is a location man of the Mine No. 3 area
identifying the nine ponds, two sumps and 26 diversion
ditches that we feel are required, based on our "first cut"
analysis, to adequatly control sediment pursuant to the appli-
cable Federal and State regulations.
As you are well aware, the Mine No. 3 area presented numerous
complications for providing adequate sediment control fac-
ilities, while remaining within the ;•uidelines of the regula-
tory agencies. Although we feel. that we have prepared a
satisfactory plan, some questions and solutions to the moc,t
troublesome areas still remain to be solved. As a result. 1
have presented below two groups of. material for your consider-
ation. The first is a listing of the basic criteria and
assumptions utilized in preparing our plan, and the second is
a set of comments and recommei;dations su;gesting alternative
solutions and/or policy decisions rehich Fnergv Fuels' ::orpora-
tion should consider.
Assumptions and criteria:
All sediment storage requirements r:cre determined utiliz-
ing 0.1 acre-feet per acre of disturbed land.
MydroloGy
Water Rip'lI5
e r,~vonmental Analysis
Urban Drainage
