,_.
,,
,.
~ •
Mr. Hamlett J. Barry
June 22, 1979
Page Two
Pit Sizes
The Rockcastle Company requests approval to decrease the size of cut A-1
and eliminate cut A-7. This represents a decrease of 1.9 acres. Cut A-1
has been decreased to provide a more consistent and economical mining pat-
tern. Cut A-7 will be eliminated to allow placement of stockpile AX in a
better position to capture runoff from that stockpile. A comparison of
the original pre-mining and mining plan map with the revised map will show
these requested changes.,
Stockpile Areas
Additional topsoil stockpile storage space is requested since federal regu-
lations require saving all topsoil rather than the 14 inches originally
planned. A topsoil stockpile of approximately 0.3 acres has been placed
east of the stockpile BDY. Also, additional topsoil stockpiles of approxi-
mately 0.2 acres each have been placed along the haulroad to pit E and along
the haulroad approximately one mile inside the permit boundary from the county
road. The latter storage pile does not appear on the revised map, but each of
the other changes in stockpile areas is Shown.
Office Area
In order to better control access to the mine area, Rockcastle Company
requests permission to move the mine office to an area along the haul
road approximately one-half mile inside the permit boundary. The office
and associated parking facilities will occupy approximately 0.4 acres.
The existing office area will be regraded and seeded to control erosion.
Mining Sequence
Due to unforeseen market fluctuation and inclement weather conditions, the
mining schedule which was permitted has changed. The sequence in which the
pits are mined and reclaimed remains the same. However, the timing has
slipped substantially. A proposed mining schedule is as follows:
Nearing or at Completion Cuts A1, A2, 61
3rd Quarter 1979 Cuts A3, A4, 62, 63
4th Quarter 1979 Cuts A5, B4, B5
1st Quarter 1980 Cuts A6, A7, C1
2nd Quarter 1981 Cuts C2, D1
3rd Quarter 1981 Cuts C3, D2, D3
4th Quarter 1981 Cuts C4, C5, D4
1st Quarter 1982 Cuts D5, E1, R1
2nd Quarter 1982 Cuts D6, E2, R1
3rd Quarter 1982 Cuts E3, R1
4th Quarter 1982 Cuts E4, S1
1st Quarter 1983 Cuts E5, S1
2nd Quarter 1983 Cuts E6, S1
3rd Quarter 1983 Cut T1
4th Quarter 1983 Cut T1
