Page 4
Preliminary Adequacy - Snowmass Coal
April 24, 1981

Additional Information Requested by OSM - Socioeconomics
Upon completion of the Office of Surface Mining's completeness review
of the Snowmass Mine Plan, a technical and environmental analysis will
be undertaken. In order to comply with the National Environmental
Policy Rct and the Council on Environmental Quality regulations, OSM
must assess the potential social and economic effects of the Department
of Interior's actions on mining and reclamation plans and include it in
the technical and environmental analysis. Therefore, OSM requests
your assistance in obtaining the following information which will
be used in completing our analysis:
1. Employment (construction, if applicable, and operation) by year
for the mine's life.
2. Information regarding the residential patterns and commuting practices
of employees.
3. Any past socioeconomic studies, assessments, surveys, etc., that
may be relevant to the Snowmass Mine and its impacts on nearby
communities.
4. Information regarding tax revenues generated by the Snowmass Mine
to the local and regional economy.
5. Any information regarding the Company's assistance to local
communities impacted by the Snowmass mine (e.g., financial
contributions to commmunities or organizations, housing or other
assistance to employees, participation in Local planning activities,
etc.).
