r, •
•
J.E. Stover & Associates -6- May 31, 1996
Bowie No. 2 Mine
submit such drawings, or state where in the permit the
drawings are located.
13. On page 2.04-22 of the permit application it is stated that
the groundwater investigation was performed over the area
bounded by Terror Creek, Hubbard Creek and the North Fork of
the Gunnison. In fact, Map 9, Hydrologic Monitoring Location
Map, shows that there are no monitoring wells outside the
permit area. On page 2.04-22, it is stated that the field
investigation for surficial hydrologic features, such as
springs and seeps, was conducted only within the permit
area.
Rule 2.04.7(1)(a) states that the proposed permit area and
the adjacent area need to be considered for the ground water
description. Adjacent area is defined in Rule 1.04(6) as
being land that will be affected by mining, depending on the
context of the subject. In the case of underground mining,
where ground water drawdown and contamination may extend a
considerable distance from the permit area, the ground water
investigation may need to be conducted outside of the permit
area. Please provide the reasons for not having the ground
water studies conducted outside of the permit area.
14. On page 2.04-23 of the permit application, three wells are
mentioned as having been drilled into the North Fork of the
Gunnison River alluvium. Are these three wells located on a
map? If not, please do so.
~15. Map 24, Alluvial Valley Floor, shows the areal extent of the
alluvial valley floor (AVF) immediately adjacent to the
North Fork of the Gunnison and immediately adjacent to the
permit area. The alluvium of the North Fork of the Gunnison
is discussed on page 2.04-23, but no mention is made of it
being an AVF. Please provide information, pursuant to Rule
4.24.2, that demonstrates that mining will not diminish the
hydrologic functions of an AVF that is not within the permit
area.
J 16. On page 2.04-26, reference is made to a table called "Static
Water Levels in Exploration Drill Holes", presumably found
in Exhibit 4 of Volume II2. However, Exhibit 4 only has
climatic data. Please locate this table and change the
reference accordingly.
17. On page 2.04-37, concerning the use of streams, springs and
ponds by wildlife, it is stated that mining could negatively
impact the springs and ponds in the area. It is further
stated that, should a pond be impacted, then the operator
