Dept. o° Natural Resources
Sunflower Energy Corporation proposes to amend it's
Development and Extraction Permit No. UC-76-: 6 by adding access
road footage, above-ground working area and a water storage reser-
voir.
A general discussion of each of the additions follows.
I. Access Road
The access road which was approved in the original appli-
cation was at a projected 9% grade. Conversations with Paonia
miners and contractors who are familiar with the Hubbard Creek
Canyon cainter hauling problems plus a more encouraging market
outlook which would necessitate increased truck traffic have led
us to redesign the road at a Less than 7Z grade. To accommodate
this revision requires adding approximately 400' to the road length.
The total disturbed area for the road including the incremental foot-
age multiplied by an average of 30' width (inclusive of backslopes,
drainage ditches, etc.) equals 42,000'.
The proposed road route runs roughly par.a11e1 to the ori-
gin al application and through the same type of vegetation and phy-
siography. The new road will also require crossing Hubbard Creek
at a point to the south of the existing bridge site. Necessary
404 permits from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers have been applied
for and Fdater Quality Certification from the Ldater Quality Control
Division of the Colorado Department of Health is in hand.
