which is designated as a class III landscape because it is
in the foreground-middleground zone of County Road 33 and is
moderately sensitive.
Fountain Shrub Varying Relief
Gently sloping hills, dissected by intermittent stream drain-
age channels, characterize this landscape type. Sagebrush
dominates the lower slopes, giving way to oak brush, ser-
viceberry, and chokecherry at the higher elevations. Sage-
brush is grey to pale green and brown while the mountain
shrubs are darker greens in summer and yellow to reddish-
brown in the fall. Irregular forms are created by the
plant masses and by several small rock outcrops that are
grey to brown in color. Line is primarily expressed by
small drainages and unimproved dirt roads and fences, all
of which are somewhat vertical. Water is an ephemeral fea-
ture of the landscape, appearing chiefly during spring run-
off and after rain storms.
The type is rated as B or characteristic scenery. It is
divided into two parts similar to the previously discussed
landscape type. The area not seen from the county roads
has a low sensitivity and consequently falls within Visual
Resource Management class IV. The area seen in the fore-
ground-middleground zone of County Road 33 is moderately
sensitive and is categorized as a class III landscape.
S.
