T ranefcr of Yulle

This section is not applicable. The applicant has no plans
to transfer any exploratory or monitoring well for further use as
a water well.
Monitoring.
The proposed ground water monitoring program is described in
Chapter IIB of this TEA. The program will be sufficient to meet
the objectives of Section 4.05.13 of the Colorado Permanent Regu-
latory Program if the following stipulation is followed:
'~ ` Although the applicant has committed to monitor
'~ certain variables, the list presented in the mine plan
is incomplete. The applicant shall commit to monitor
~\
all of those water quality variables set forth as
~ n necessary by the Colorado MLRD guidelines. For those
variables not monitored during baseline conditions, a
data base of one year of record shall be established,
with sampling performed at the frequency required by
the Colorado MLRD.
The applicant has installed one well, Well 7, in the re-
claimed spoil area of the original pit to monitor water quality.
The results show that the spoil water is made up of essentially
equal parts of sodium sulfate and sodium bicarbonate type water.
Generally, pre-mining groundwater quality in the area was a
sodium bicarbonate type, which suggests an increase in sodium
sulfate in the reclaimed area. Although insufficient data has
been collected to draw any firm conclusions, implementation of
precediny stipulations on monitoring and overburden handling will
aid in evaluating impacts to the groundwater resource.
-83-
