Page Two
Maned Land Reclamation Div.
September 27, 1990
At a Las Animas County Planning and Land Use commission hearing
on this issue last night, it became abundantly clear that the
public in attendance, 77 strong, came to the hearing with one
voice, all against the issue. The issues ran the gamut from
public safety on the transportation route, to noise, air, and
water pollution over the site, to apparent lack of concern for
the proper reclamation of the land once strip mining had been
completed.
We are enclosing a list of questions which were brought up by
citizens at the county land use permit hearing last evening so
that you may judge as to the concerns of citizens and organiza-
tions regarding this commercial strip mining operation.
We believe that there are enough inconsistencies in both the oral
presentation we heard last evening by Mr Davis and in the written
portion of the county application for land use permit, that a
formal hearing be scheduled for the citizens of Las Animas county
to be allowed to present their case before your agency.
It is not only our organization's duty to recruit industry and
small business, but it is also our duty to inform our citizens of
business or industry that could adversely effect their lifestyle
and long term economic goals and objectives.
Las Animas county residents do not believe in Economic Develop-
ment regardless of the impact. They live here because they want
to and because they want to see their families and grandchildren
grow up in this same community.
We will appreciate your consideration of
hearing on this issue before a permit has
dis-allow local input from our citizens.
Thank you.
Cordially,
`~Pfdnk ~~t ~a3zbei/rg '~G
Executive Director
Enclosure
our plea for a public
been issued that will
J`~
