Northfield Partners, LLC
Northfield Fxploratton Project
BASELINE HYDROLOGY MONITORING PLAN -SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Response:
The two ponds aze used for temporary storage of irrigation water according the landowner. Water
is supplied to the ponds, from a water source approximately 1 '/z miles to the northwest, via a 12
inch diameter pipe. The~ponds have not been used for several yeazs due to a break in the supply
pipe.
Field observations confirmed that the natural drainage southwest of the ponds flows azound the
ponds and enters the Fawn Hollow drainage. Surface runoff entering the ponds originates only
from the limited hillside azea directly south of the ponds.
Additional Baseline Hydrologic Information
A spring/seep was found approximately 900 feet southeast of the Section 12 (S 12-SP)
spring/seep monitoring location while monitoring S 12-SP on June 22, 2005. This spring seep
flows from a 4 feet diameter culvert originating in the side of a hill. A conversation with the
landowner (Carlsson) provided the further details. Cazlsson explained that the culvert is situated
at the location of an abandoned coal mine portal. In 1984, the portal azea collapsed accompanied
by a significant dischazge of water from the old mine works. Soon after the event, the State of
Colorado stabilized the portal azea and placed the section of culvert in the mine opening to allow
water drainage. Since that time, water has continued to flow from the culvert except during some
recent dry weather periods.
Northfield has reseazched mining records and determined that the referenced portal is part of the
Golden Quality No. 3 Mine portal azea. The No. 3 Mine is connected to the Golden Quality No.
2/ Chandler Creek/Griffiths coal mine complex. These workings aze primarily in the Ocean
Wave coal seam.
The Plan explains that the source of water for the S 12-SP spring/seep is from the same above
mine complex. Northfield will proceed to sample flows from both spring/seep areas in order to
determine if the groundwater source is the same. If Northfield determines that the water source is
similaz, then only one of the two spring/seep locations will then be monitored for baseline
hydrologic data.
- 4 - 06/30/05
