_:,_
and information on water rights associated with springs
in the permit and adjacent areas. 1'he applicant should
provide to the Division a legible hydrology map with
the following information, clear contour lines,
streams, springs, ponds and impoundments, wells,
irrigation ditches (i. e. main ditches, feeder ditches
and return flow ditches), head gate location, watershed
boundaries, monitoring wells, and surface monitoring
sites. To assess the present impacts of mining on
ground water, the applicant should provide to the
Division a mine inflow study. This inflow study should
include a mapping of all mine inflows on an updated
mine workings map; a table keyed to this map with the
source of inflows (i.e. fractures, faults, on weeping roof,
floor or walls), and an estimated or measured inflow
rates and mine inflow water quality (i.e, pH, electro-
conductivity, and temperature); a record of the amount
of water imported into the mine; discharged from the
mine and consumed within the mine; and finally a
narrative discription of the occurance of water within
the mine and how it is handled. The list of water
quality parameters which the applicant should monitor
quarterly for both surface and ground water samples
is contained in Attachment A.
After collecting all of this site specific data, the
applicant should have the data analyzed and should
rewrite the hydrologic, alternative water supply
systems (water rights), and Alluvial Valley Floor
sections of the permit application. The following
analyses should be prepared:
A. An evaluation of ground water depletion in the coal
seams and the glacial-alluvial aquifer induced by
underground mining operations.
B. An evaluation of the effects of mining on
stream flow depletion.
C. An evaluation of the effects of mining on
subirrigation, surface irrigation systems, irrigation
return flows to SJard Creek, and productivity of
irrigated pasture and orchard lands.
D. An evaluation of water rights held by Grand Ptesa
Coal Company, and the need for augmentation of water
supplies of other water rights holders above and below
the permit area. Including an evaluation, sufficient
water available in the Colby Domestic Water System
to cover the loss of dater to well owners.
