Mr. Dan Mathews

-2-
February 16, 1984
Item V. You requested that we specifically designate a map as the
permit area for Grand Mesa Coal Company. You also requested that we
either stamp or mark all other map copies in the application to refer
to the designated permit area map. We intend to designate the permit
boundary on Map 2.05.3(1)-1, Red Canyon lil Mine (E Seam). A print of
that map can currently be found in the first map pouch in Volume 7 of
the application. That map will be labelled "Mine Permit Area"; a new
map will be prepared to demonstrate the "Loadout Permit Area." A
statement will be prepared for use in marking all other maps with
boundaries which could be confused with the permit area. That statement
will refer other maps to the "Mine Permit Area" or "Loadout Permit Area"
maps for the purposes of permit area boundary designation.
Item VI. The mine projections as included in Volumes 8 and 9 are
now out of date. The mine projections will be updated to our current
mining schedule.
Item VII. We understand that the primary purpose of MLR needing
life-of-mine information is for evaluation of the regional hydrologic
effects. We have some question as to what our life-of-mine response
should be, since our plan includes property not currently controlled.
This question will be resolved, and a proper life-of-mine response will
be made.
Item VIII. The sediment control and drainage plan now included in
the interim permit will be included in the Grand P-lesa Coal Company
permit application in an updated form.
This concludes the discussion on areas requiring additional response.
Again, please advise us if any areas have been overlooked, or if new
items come up at Mined Land Reclamation or the Office of Surface Mining.
If we do not hear from you, we will plan to give you the final response
on March 9th.
Very truly yours,
William 5.
