use and enjoy as is, not being fearful of changing geology that may cause a
disruption of ecological systems on our property resulting in a loss of trees & other
plant life, destroying its fragile beauty. Failing rocks and other unsafe conditions
would also accompany any subterranean geological shifting, which would make
walking and climbing on our property hazardous.
3. Water: (substantial loss or reduction of watersupp/y) Approximately 1/3 of our
property will be subsided according to application maps. If the mine does not act
as a dewatering well for the private well that sustains us, then there is a high
probability that during the subsidence phase of the mine the resulting cracks and
fissures could result in a substantial loss or reduction of long-range productivity or
water supply to our well. Your Division's Adequacy Review of this permit, C-2006-
085, dated November 28, 2006, states, "...there is a general paucity of analysis or
scientific evidence to support the contention of minimal or no impact to ground
water users in the permft and adjacent areas."
4. Prooertv Value: I know this is not one of the criteria of designating an area
unsuitable for coal mining, but it is a big one for my wife and me. A coal mine in
our front yard could destroy our family's financial security. Our property is tied
directly to the value of our home. A home without water and property that is
damaged due to subsidence will have a detrimental affect on our property value.
In fact, we believe that it will make our home un-sellable.
Sincerely,
~~ ~~
Gary W.
