Mr. Dave Canning
Page four
April 15> 1982 ~ '
2.04.7(b) Surface Water Hydrology
The applicant's inventory of surface water bodies is
incomplete. The applicant should submit a map (Rule 2.04.5(4))
showing all reservoirs, ponds, ditches, springs, etc. located
in or adjacent to (1 mile radius) the permit area. The
Division is particularly concerned with ponds overlying the
underground workings, springs overlying the underground
workings or downdip from the mining activities and
irrigation systems.
2. Depending upon [he results of the probable hydrologic
consequences of mining evaluation of Middle Creek, it may
be appropriate for the applicant to supply alternative
water supply information for appropriated water uses.
3. The surface and ground water monitoring can now be amended
as per attachment A, because the Division has reviewed the
possible water from mining within the Yampa River Drainage
pollutants. Total hardness and total iron should be added
to the surface water parameters and dissolved iron should
should be added [o the ground water parameters. The
The following parameters may be dropped from the list:
Alkalinity, Vanadium, Orthe-phosphate, Barium, Chromium,
and Nickel. Frequency of monitoring may also be reduced as
suggested in Attachment A. Further reductions in monitoring
may be possible upon petitioning the Divisions with
appropriate justification.
2.05.3 Operation Plan Permit Area
1. It is unclear from the information presented in the application
what seams are to be mined during this 5'Year permit term.
The applicant should supply an anticipated sequence of mining
in both narrative and map form. This information must describe
anticipated starting dates and termination dates for each
phase of mining for each seam to be mined. Anticipated annual
production must also be provided.
2. The drainage from the gulch behind the office seems [o be
diverted. This drainage must be delineated down to its
confuence with Trout Creek. If the flow has been diverted in
the office area, the designs for the diversion in accordance
with Rule 4.05.3 must be supplied.
