Of course, oip n
storage will be limited to the shortest time possible and v
effort will he made to remove the coal immediately.
As part of the general fire provention program, hand op
fire extinguishers are readily available at strategic poiintls
around the operation. Section 4.1.12 (page 10) "Safety a~,nd
Prevention" discusses these fire prevention commitments.

ry
erated
Fire
IX. Subsidence - EPA states that "controlled subside~nee" is
not part of the CWI mining plan. In our view, this obsexvt2on
is not correct. The mining plan provides for removal of pillars
in several panels and CWI will implement a surface monitoring
program to determine the extent to which surface subsidence occurs
as a result. If any subsidence is observed USGS will be
informed, appropriate measures to correct any significant
subsidence damage will be taken, and techniques will be .developed
for controlling and limiting additional subsidence to theixtent
possible (See Section 3.2.3.2 and 4.1.11 which describe suisidence
as a hazard due to underground mining and the monitoring techniques
to be implemented).
;~,
i~ ~i~ V' ~ ~u ~~~ ru~~ ~. , ;
