-2-
The future mining in the Martinez Strip will be up the dip of the "C"
seam from west to east. Thus, the mine is progressing from its lowest
point below Stollsteimer Creek to a level above the Creek. Maximum
inflows would be expected at the lowest point and the magnitude of
inflows occurring above this point will decrease.
Currently the only inflows to the pit occur along the southwestern edge
of the mine. No inflows are occurring in the eastern end of the pit.
Thus there is no water coming from the upstream areas of Stollsteimer
Creek.
The mine is bounded on the east by Stollsteimer Creek. Stollsteimer
Creek rapidly recharges the alluvial and bedrock aquifers directly
~ adjacent to the stream. My depletions in surface and ground water
upstream of the mine would be reflected in reduced flows in Stollsteimer
Creek directly adjacent and upstream of the mine (e. g. Stollsteimer Creek
is a recharge boundary). Depletions in Stollsteimer Creek will be
confined to two areas, one downstream of the mine, and another area east
of the mine between the center of Stollsteimer Creek and the eastern edge
of the pit. The depletion will not progress beyond Stollsteimer Creek
and upstream to Mr. Hamilton's well. Thus the quantity of well water
will not be affected by the mining operation.
Please forward a copy of this memo to Gene Hamilton. Hopefully the
information contained in this memo will allay his concerns over the
impacts of the Martinez Strip on the quantity and quality of ground water
supp]ying his well.
If you or Mr. Hamilton have any questions or need further clarification,
please feel free to contact me.
/ep
cc: Mr. Gene Hamilton
Mr. Fred Banta
Mr. Ed Bischoff
Mr. Jim Pendleton
