Memo to Dave Berry
Bowie No. 2 Geotechnical Adequacy Responses
page 10
Chimney Collapse Prediction
91. New Section 1.8, added to Exhibit 15 by BRL, addresses the possible
implications of near outcrop faulting for possible chimney collapse
occurrence. My earlier adequacy concern has been resolved by the
proposed amendment to Exhibit 15.
2.1 SUBSIDENCE IMPACTS -LAND USE
Paragraph 1
BRL's amendment to page 18 of Exhibit 15, and the related mitigations
presented within the SUBSIDENCE HANDBOOK, acceptably resolve my
earlier adequacy concern regarding the potential land use effects of
subsidence.
2.2 SURFACE WATER
Paragraph 1
BRL's proposal that "surface modifications of the surface drainage and
ponds could be made in cases of any occurrence of subsidence cracks", has
been supported by their amendment to the monitoring plan, which will
allow timely detection and implementation of the appropriate mitigative
techniques.
2.3 GROUND WATER
Paragraph 1
The position of the applicant presented throughout the application is that
no significant water resources exist within the overburden or on the
surface of the permit area, and that no appropriated springs issue from
the affected area. BRL further believes that none of the water that issues
from the ephemeral drainages is appropriated.
