OF NATUItP.I RESOL'QCES <br />R'~~- • - <br />M.AR ~- <br />~D LwD a[; .. <br />~g AEPT, a h... <br />and Associated Facilities <br />Approval for Northern #1 and <br />C-032-81 <br />tSorthern Coal Company has been operating the Rienau #2 <br />Kline since 1978 and opened the Northern #1 'dine in 1979• <br />Both mines are operating under interim program permits <br />from the State and the Office of Surface Mining. In <br />June of 1980, Northern Coal Company submitted an appli- <br />cation under the federal permanent program regulations <br />covering these two existing mines and proposing two addi- <br />tional mines in the same vicinity. Due to a decision to <br />delay the two new mines, the State recommended Northern <br />Coal Company seek partial approval of the mine plan under <br />permanent program regulations. To avoid confusion, and <br />to aid in the review and permitting process per a State <br />request, a modified application was submitted Gctober 7, <br />1982. We would like to obtain a permit for I;orthern #1 <br />and Rienau #2 Mines in operational modes, though the mines <br />have been placed on Temporary Cessation of Operations, and <br />are waiting on stand-by until the coal market improves. <br />It has been expressed by the State that the review and <br />permitting process under the permanent program regula- <br />tions of our modified permit application has not been <br />high on the State's priority list. Due to the imminent <br />withdrawal of my services from Northern Coal Company, I <br />wish to re-express my interest in assisting in the expe- <br />dition of your permitting process. I wish to have the <br />opportunity to respond to any deficiencies of or stipu- <br />lations to the permit application prior to 1•".arch 31, 1983• <br />
