. III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Davie H. Getchea, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
Richartl D. Lamm
Governor
February 8, 1984
Mr, J. Michael Walker
Northern Coal Company
2223 Dodge Street
Omaha, Nebraska 68102
RE: Meeker Area Mines Permit Application - File No. C-032-81
Dear Mr. Walker:
The Division has commenced an adequacy review for the Meeker Area Mines, and
it is our objective to issue a proposed decision within the next few months.
We have some major questions regarding exactly what Northern is proposing to
permit at this time, however,
The attached letter and information within the September, 1982 revised
application indicates that approval of operations and reclamation at the
Rienau No. 2, Northern No. 1, Wilson-Loudy Loadout and the refuse disposal
area would be requested for the 5-year permit term. However, since that time,
Hank Coufos, Mine Superintendent has indicated that Northern no longer
proposes mining at the Northern No. I and plans to reclaim the site in the
very near future. The 4lilson-Loudy Loadout is presently being reclaimed. The
proposed future use of the refuse disposal area is not clear.
We are requesting that you review the attached letter and advise us as to
whether or not it reflects the current situation. Specificially, we need to
know whether Northern is requesting operational or reclamation only permit
approval for the four affected areas.
Your timely response will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
,, ~ ,~~//{/~T--
_ I /v/ 'JS ~
Dan T.
