Tab 20 Backfilling and Grading
Adequate for first pit only. Backfilling and grading plans are not complete for the
neck pit, and southern part of the permit area at this time.
My discussions with Barbara centered on similar geology and hydrology aspects of the Yoast
area to Seneca II and IIw. Based on experience at those mines, we should expect spoil
aquifers to develop at Yoast, with attendant long term impacts to ground and surface water
quality, and quantity. There appear to be some site specific geologic/hydrologic factors
which could result in potentially more severe TDS impacts to ground and surface waters at
parts of the Yoast mine, than was seen at Seneca. The permit application does reference
the USGS Hydrologic studies and available data. The Hydrologic consequences does discuss
the long term impacts of spoil aquifers on ground/surface water, but I did not review these
sections for adequacy/content.
xc: Jim Pendleton
Larry Routten
