Lochhead
Evecwrve Director
Michael B. Long
Re: C-94-082 Yoast Mine Application Adequacy Comments Division Director
I have reviewed Tabs 6, 12, 13, and 20, as well as discussing certain aspects of Tabs 7, 15,
16, and 17 with Barbara Pavlik. Additionally, I have compiled a preliminary landslide
geologic map of the permit area from the aerial photographs provided. The following are
my comments on the adequacy of the application materials.
Tab 6 Geology and Overburden Assessment
' Adequate discussion. Data submitted generally compares with available USGS data
from the area. Zones of acid forming materials and leachable salts have been
located, and generally correspond to predicted conditions.
Bedrock geologic map is adequate, but there is no engineering/su~cial geology
included. One was referred to in the facilities Tab, but is not included in the permit
application.
Tab 12 Mining Plan
Adequate general discussion. There are some areas of landslides which will
potentially affect the plan, but which are not discussed/recognized at this time.
' The "neck pit" will be developed through a significant landslide deposit, and other
unstable areas will affect the ditch to pond 011. Mining in the southern part of the
area could also affect stability of the existing active landslide complex adjacent to
Sage Creek in section 19.
ab 13 Facilities
' Adequate general discussion; missing exhibits 13-12-1, and 13-12-2. Adequate
engineering studies, but conflicting opinions of sediment pond cut off ability and
construction parameters needs to be clarified/resolved.
The Engineering Geologic Maps are missing (13-12-1, 13-12-2)
