Mike Long
Page 5
It is rather difficult to discuss transmissivity
and storativity of the aquifer(s) in the
area. The ground water portion of the permit
application discusses the known extent and
presence of ground water. A major ground
water basin is not present. Ground water is
limited in occurence by physical constraints
such as surface topography. The regional
hydrology map depicts the locations of wells
east and west of the actual mine area. Other
than the shallow ground water zone associated
with Stollsteimer Creek ground water occurence
appears to be quite irregular. Therefore,
projections of transmissivity and storativity
are not possible without more extensive and
costly drilling which if conducted may only
indicate further irregular ground water
occurence as discussed above.
Section 2.04.9 Soils Resource Information
The soil analysis presented on Table 14 in
the permit application were segregated by
horizon based upon visual inspection as to
color, texture, friability, etc. A statement
to this affect will be inserted in the appropriate
location in the text of the permit application.
The location of soil sample E-3 is depicted
on the soils map. It is located west of
Stollsteimer Creek along the toe of the slope
of the barren ridge. Average topsoil and
subsoil depths are depicted on the soils map.
The text indicates the amounts of topsoil and
subsoil to be removed throughout the area.
We agreed that the information presented is
sufficient.
~ ~
