SHELTON Director
i •.
December 9, 1982
TO: Susan Mowry
FROM: M.S. Savage ~gI.1VQ44~..
RE: Sundance Coal Vegetation Submittal of November 10, 1982
I have reviewed the vegetation information submitted by
Sundance Coal on Novebmer 10, 1982 in response to our meeting
of November 1, 1982, and correspondence of October 20, 1982. I
have presented my comments below, so as to correspond to the
concerns noted in the Division correspondence of October 20,
1982.
1. The Division requested that the permittee provide a
site-specific vegetation map delineating the plant
communities. In the November 10 submittal, Plate II has been
redrafted to show the boundary between the Bottomland and
Pinyon-Juniper vegetation communities. This is acceptable to
the Division. As a further clarification, the permLttee should
label the location of each community on Plate II.
2. The Division requested site specific baseline and
reference area data on species composition, cover, production,
and woody plant density, by methods acceptable to the Division.
In the November 1, 1982 meeting each of the above topics were
discussed. It was concluded that the raw field data taken
during 1982 would be submitted for Division review to determine
if the large variation was a product of sampling design or a
result of a highly heterogeneous vegetative community.
I have reviewed the raw field data for both the bottomland and
pinyon-Suniper communities. In my analysis I determined that
the sample distribution was not normal, but bivariate. In an
attempt to isolate factors which may have caused this
distribution I calculated statistics for each community for the
following:
423 Centennial Building. 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel (303) 866-3567
