SUBJECT: Northfield New Application Review

I have completed my review of the new Northfield application. I reviewed permit
Sections 2.05.2, 2.05.3 and 2.05.4 and their associated maps and exhibits. I reviewed this
material with specific emphasis on the reclamation cost estimate. Based on the permit
deficiencies, I was unable to complete a reclamation cost estimate at this time. Below are
my adequacy questions based on permit section.
Section 2.05.2 Operations Plan -Estimated Area for Life of Operation
There is a typographic error on Page 2.05-2 on the second line of the forth
pazagraph. The word structures has been misspelled as "strictures". Please
correct.
Section 2.05.3 ODerations Plan -Permit Area
2. There is a typographical error on Page 2.05.3-3 on the second line of the first
paragraph. The text reads "...Mine Health and Safety Administration
(MSHA)." This should read "Mine Safety and Health Administration
(MSHA)." Please correct.
3. On Page 2.05.3-7 Northfield describes a plan to pump water from the active
workings to the surface and have it pass through the sediment pond and
eventually be discharged to the surface stream system. Please provide the
Division with a diagram of the system including the size(s) and location(s) of
any boreholes to the workings and the size and location of all surface and
