•

3. (continued)

The major change in this technical revision is the shortening of
the pit on the northwest end. The technical revision contains
one sentence of justification for this reduction of over 100
acres and approximately 300,000 tons of coal. Additional
information, requested by this office, was supplied by Colorado
Yampa Coal Company (CYCC) in a timely and cooperative manner.
Documentation supplied included a plan map, drill logs, a cross
section, and a detailed narrative. Copies of the narrative and
drill hole data are attached. A telephone conversation with Mr.
Mike Kondelis of CYCC provided further details. Increasing
depth, resulting in a greater stripping ratio with rehandle,
faults with displacement of 3' to 30', and pinching of the coal
seam, all combine to make the northwest pit end of Area 60
uneconomical to mine according to CYCC.
The chance of this coal being recovered at a future date is
unlikely, but is still possible. The bypass of this coal
resource is unavoidable at this time, due to mechanical
limitations and economic conditions.
C:
•
Our review of
Coal Company
regulations.
the technical revision has determined that Colorado Yampa
has complied with the requirements of applicable Federal
Accordingly, we recommend the approval of this revision.
Attachment
cc: CMLRD
M.
