TAB 10 -VEGETATION JUN 101985
EXPLANATION OF REQUIRED CHANGES RESULTING MINED LAND
IN TIE-ACROSS REALIGNMENT RECLAMATION DIVISION
On April 12, 1985, a meeting was held between representatives of CMLRD and Peabody
Coal Company to discuss the proposed realignment of the Seneca II-W tie-across haul
road. At tha meeting, it was determined that a portion of the realignment would be
located on previously unsampled vegetation consisting of wheat cropland and low sage-
brush native vegetation. Since the wheat cropland to be affected is similar to previously
sampled wheat cropland and a performance standard based on ASCS crop production
averages for the area is to be used for reclamation success, sampling in this type was not
necessary. Additional sampling will be done on approximately 12 acres of the low sage-
brush type occurring in the proposed realignment permit area. As discussed at the April
12 meeting and confirmed with Anne Baldridge and Sandy Browne on May 29, 1985, the
following sampling program will be carried out during The 1985 field season.
A total of ten (10) randomly located sample points will be placed in both
the low sagebrush reference area and The area to be affected. Parameters
to be sampled are herbaceous production by species, cover by species and
shrub density. Data and results will be presented as revised pages to the
current permit application and in the same format. This informatin will be
submitted in the fall of 1985.
A revised vegetation map and Table 10-2 showing revised acreages for the haul road are
included with this submittal. It should be noted that the increase in total acres and acres
by vegetation types is due to an increased permit area size for topsoil stockpiles, an
increase in the disturbance area, and study area boundaries which in some cases are
outside of the permit area boundary.
