02-16-1995 08~24RM FROM ~RBODY WESTERN
TO 913038328106 P.04
•
All but fro of the subirrigeted areas identified are associated ri th retlands that are not
formable. I~ One area upgradiant from Pond 10 in 56, TSr, R87Y was identified on both
Exhi bf is 10-1 and 16-3 (Figure 2) as improved pasture, subirrigeted. Exhibit 10-1 more
i specif icaLly defines the extent of the field because it ras evaluated as part of a higher
order regetetion survey chat included detailed sampling. This ras not the level of
mapping analysis requiretl in the AYF survey. Regardless, both surveys [dentified a
i subirrigeted field in Section 8. The AVF report in Attachment 16.3 reports there ere no
subirrigeted fields in Armand Drar fn crop production. This statement is correct ae the
22-aers field in question has long since been abandoned, is not bat ng managed, and has
been aignif ieantly reinvaded with perennial native cpociec. SC[ provided the AVF
consultant rith alluvial rater quality dace measured in Section 8 (see Table 7-22, Tab 7).
The rater quality data shors the CDOX irri gaci on stands rda for pH and nn aro exceeded and
the alluvial rater in this portion of Armand Drar is unsuitable for AVF farming- Based
largely on the rater quality aed the fact the field has been abandoned (not en
etonomicslly feasible field to farm and not of aignif ieenee to farming in the area), the
AYF Study cone[uded there ere no existing subirrigeted areee presently in crop production
and no potentially subirrigeted fields in Annend Drar.
i In the second area, twelve acres out of a 2000-acre dryland farmed field were identified
~ ae potentially subirrigable. A worst case salinity inenasa analysis was performed for
! she 12-sere parcel and potential yield declines ~of from 3.9 percent to 5.9 percent ware
calculated. Considering the 12-acre parcel with the other 1,988 scree of non-irrigable
~ cropland in the tame field, the overall crop reduction is less than 1 percent.
Literature Cited
Rahn, P.X. 1976.
