In their mine plan, a systems of monitoring surface dis-
turbance uses control points at 1/16 section corners east and west, and '~
mile apart north and south. The stations are tied together by triangulation
so that both horizontal and vertical displacement can be detected. A photo
flight was made prior to pillaring in order to prepare a map for comparison
with maps made after pillaring.
The Orchard Valley Mine maintains production at 650,000 tons a year and a
60% recovery rate. Colorado Westmoreland projects that it will increase
their production rate to 1,300,000 tons per year when their mine plan is
approved. Full approval of the mine plan application is contingent upon the
( ~~~ development of slope stability data for the coal refuse and action or a plan
\ - to contain the refuse material.
Coal is conveyed out of the mine using conveyor belts and is dumped into a
surge bin. After the coal is crushed [o minus 2 inches and separated from
the waste product, it is trucked to three storage silos having a 21,000 tor.
capacity. These silos load into unit trains.
Evaluation of Compliance
Mining at Colorado Idestmoreland's present rate will exhaust the leased coal
in 13 years.
