A map
identifying the area proposed to be included is attached for
your reference. This acreage was excluded from the present
lease boundary because, at the time of the initial environ-
mental assessment on the lease application, the Colorado
Division of Wildlife believed that the value of the excluded
acreage as an elk calving and migration corridor justified the
exclusion.
Since the initial environmental assessment, Energy Fuels
and the Colorado Division of Wildlife have worked closely to
gather additional data on the value of the excluded acreage as
an elk calving habitat and to monitor the elk activities
in the area.
At a recent meeting between Energy Fuels and representa-
tives of the Colorado Division of Wildlife the results of the
elk data collection and monitoring activities were reviewed.
As a result of this review, the Colorado Division of Wildlife
has re-evaluated its earlier position that the area should be
excluded from mining. Specifically, the Colorado Division of
Wildlife recommended to the Bureau of Land Management in a
letter dated July 1, 1980 that the present lease be modified
