DEPARTMENTOFNATURALRESOURCES
D Mode Pascoe Execm ne DrteU Or
June 10, 1983
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
R ¢ba~0 D Lamm
G o~e~no~
T0: Carol Russell
FROM: Sandy Emrich~~ ~~'
Z
RE: Twin Pines Ve9etat'ion
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ~
~~
and Wildlife Adequacy Comments and Draft Findings
PJUTE: This is .a draft only. There are several adequacy concerns that need to
reviewed.
Vegetation infornlation is found on payes ti0-64 and revegetation information is
found on pages 88-90.
The vegetation within the surface disturbance area can be classified into two
types; previously mined land and pinyon-juniper woodland. The majority of the
.area is considered previously mined land and the vegetation is indicative of
disturbed lands. The dominant species in this type are kochia and Russian
thistle, both annual weeds. There are scattered plants of Rabbitbrush and an
occassional clump of Indian riceyrass. Vegetative cover is very sparse.
The pinyon-juniper woodland covers acres. It is located on the
south-facing slope above and adjacent to the old mine bench and on the valley
bottom where a sediment pond is proposed. This pinyon-juniper coin~nunity is
dominated by pinyon pine and one-seeded juniper. Stlrubs occurring in this
type are mountain mahogany, skunkbrush sumac and gainbel's oak. Blue yrama and
sideoats yrama are the predominant grasses. Other grasses are: red threeawn,
rough tridens grass, sand dropseed and Indian riceyrass. Veyetative cover in
this type is approximately thirty (30) percent, and herbaceous production from
the cornmunity is 84U pounds per acre.
Surface disturbances will be reclaimed to A
seed mixture of has been approved.
Since the area is considered previously mined land, the revegetation success
standards will be set in accordance with Rule 4.15.1 U.
There are no threatened and/or endanyered species that will be impacted as a
result of the proposed mine.
Findings cannot be completed until the following adequacy concerns are
addressed.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
