Susan Morrison
July 21, 1992
Page 5
Productivity assessments will be made at all nests
identified unless, in the judgment of the field
biologist, such assessments may jeopardize
successful nesting.
Terrestrial invertebrates
No studies are proposed. Data collected from
sweep-net studies conducted at Seneca II and Seneca
II-W will be used to support the Yoast permit
application.
Aquatic Vertebrates and Invertebrates
An aquatic survey will be conducted in flowing
portions of Sage Creek and Grassy Creek to a point
no further than three miles downstream from the
proposed permit area. The survey will be designed
to investigate the existence of biological
communities as defined by regulation.
Surveys will consist of placement of multi-plate
substrate samplers in appropriate flowing habitat
in the stream channels. A minimum of three
samplers will be placed in each stream at various
locations, depending upon flowing habitat
availability. Samplers will be installed for 45 to
60 days from mid-April to mid-June. At the time of
installation and de-installation, dip-netting will
be conducted in flowing reaches. Semi-qualitative
analysis will be conducted by utilizing constant
dip-net reaches and sampling intervals. Sampling
will be augmented with qualitative picking in
likely habitats (reeds, turning rocks, and wood
debris, etc.).
The data will be used to develop a species list,
assess dependence on flowing conditions, assess
reproduction, and assess relative abundance.
Threatened and Endangered Species
Threatened and endangered species, or other species
of high Federal or State interest will be assessed
during the consultation phase with the appropriate
agencies. Should such species exist in or near the
proposed permit area, habitat requirements and
availability will be quantified along with breeding
sites/habitats, roosting and lounging habitat, etc.
