Susan Morrison
July 21, 1992
Page 4
Herpetofauna
No quantitative studies are proposed. Information
for the permit application will be drawn from the
Seneca II and Seneca II-W studies. Amphibian and
reptile species lists, assessments of relative
abundance, and determinations of habitat affinity
will be developed using general reconnaissance and
incidental observations made during the course of
conducting field studies and qualitative
investigations of probable habitats (mesic areas,
rock piles, etc.).
Waterfowl and Shorebirds
No quantitative studies are proposed. Qualitative
counts of adults and young will be made at wet
areas in early July, 1993 to document a species
list, numbers, and breeding.
Upland Game Birds
Breeding grounds will be documented using
information supplied by the Division of Wildlife
and field reconnaissance. Identified arenas will
be checked at least twice during the breeding
season to count displaying males and attending
females.
Passerines
No quantitative studies are proposed. General
reconnaissance will be conducted in mid-June and
winter to document breeding species and winter
migrants. A species list will be developed which
will be augmented with the Seneca II and Seneca II-
W studies and which will document relative
abundance, habitat preference, and residence
status.
Raptors
Peabody has collected golden eagle nesting data
during the course of conducting big game surveys in
the Yoast area since 1990. These data will be
augmented with ground surveys for breeding raptors
from late April through late June. Ground surveys
will consist of general reconnaissance and four- to
six-hour skyline searches for hunting birds.
