After reviewing the subject permit application at the Clerk and Recorders
Office in the Fremont County Courthouse, it appears the hydrology report fails to take into
account either the private wells immediately to the south or those in the mine permit area.
Although the mine company may feel the wells will not be impacted, the permit needs to
include a definitive plan to replace any water lost (contamination loss as well as water table
loss, or well damage due to subsidence etc.) in a timely fashion. Because the wells serve
private home and animals, water replacement on a temporary basis should occur within 48
hours and on a permanent basis within 30 days.
2. County Road 79 (Chandler Road ). Most of the 2.9 mile stretch of this road between county
road 11A and county road 77 where the Williamsburg Town limit sign is posted is an
unimproved dirt road in a dilapidated condition that narrows to a one lane road in several
places. In the past the Town of Williamsburg, which is responsible for the maintenance of
this stretch of the road, has not had the resources to do so properly, let alone bring it up to the
reasonable standard of a good county gravel road. On several occasions throughout the year
this road becomes impassible except with a good, sturdy 4-wheel-drive vehicle. Occasionally
the culvert crossing at Chandler Creek partially or completely washes out. The bottom line -
this road can bazely withstand the current traffic load let alone any increase in traffic. A plan
needs to be developed and resources allocated to improve and maintain the road to the
reasonable standard of a good road that is usable 365 days a year.
11 /24/2006
